Ambassador George L. Marcantonatos joined the Greek Diplomatic Service in 1983 and prior to his arrival in Canada, was appointed as Director General of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad (MFA).
He was previously the head of the E3 Directorate for Administrative and Judicial Affairs, as Minister Plenipotentiary. He also served as political advisor at the Permanent Delegation of Greece to NATO, as a Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Greece in Moscow, as Consul General in Jerusalem and as Secretary of Embassy at the Greek Embassy in Washington D.C.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs he worked at the A5 Political Directorate for C.I.S. countries, at the C1 Directorate for External European Relations, at the A3 Political Directorate for Balkan and Eastern European countries, as well as at the A4 Political Directorate for American and European countries.
Born in Athens and a member of a diplomatic family, holds a Degree in Law (University of Athens) and a Master’s Degree in International and Public Policy from the “School of Advanced International Studies” (S.A.I.S.), Johns Hopkins University.
He is married to Vassiliki Tsirou (studies in Greek and English Literature) and has two children, Leonidas, who has studied International and European studies and Irene-Helene, who is a student of Architecture.
