Foreign Ministry spokesperson E. Efthymiou’s response to journalists’ questions regarding unacceptable views on the situation in Thrace, expressed at a conference held in Samsun

Monday, 16 May 2016

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Efstratios Efthymiou stated the following in response to journalists’ questions regarding unacceptable views on the situation in Thrace, expressed at a conference held in Samsun:

"Greece follows a policy of egalitarianism and equality before the law for all Greek citizens, regardless of religion, guaranteeing them prosperity, dignity and respect for all their rights.

Proof of this is that the Muslim minority residing in Thrace fully enjoys all of its rights and unhindered development.

The Greek government, with respect for the individual particularities of its Muslim citizens, proceeds to targeted actions to ensure that everyone is in a position to benefit from the opportunities provided by the Hellenic Republic within the European Union.

Inflammatory initiatives and statements that are aimed at creating a climate of disruption and uncertainty obviously help no one, not even, of course, the audience to which they are addressed".
