Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Venizelos participates in an Italian EU Presidency luncheon

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos attended a community luncheon today, Wednesday, 12 November, hosted in his honor by the Italian Ambassador to Athens, Mr. Glaentzer, on the occasion of Italy’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

At the luncheon, which was attended by the EU member-state Ambassadors to Athens, there was a discussion of the priorities of the Italian Presidency, in conjunction with the achievements of the previous Presidency – that of Greece – and issues at the top of the European agenda.

Responding to a series of questions posed in the course of the discussion, Mr. Venizelos referred to a number of issues, including the situation of the Greek economy, the main issues in Greek foreign policy, the Cyprus issue, Greek Turkish relations, the results of the Cairo Summit Meeting, the prospects for cooperation with Israel, issues concerning the delimitation of maritime zones, the European perspective of the countries of the Western Balkans, and the latest developments in the wider region of Southeast Europe.
