Wednesday, 10 November 2010

The Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation, Mr. Konstantinos Papadopoulos, was in Israel on 10 and 11 November 2010, in acceptance of an invitation from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the University of Munich and the Center for Political Economics to speak at a conference in Tel Aviv. The topic of the Conference was, “Facing Economic and Monetary Challenges in Light of the Euro crisis: Impact on Israeli-European relations and Regional Cooperation.”

Mr. Papadopoulos took this opportunity to meet with the Israeli Foreign Ministry’s Deputy Director General for Development Cooperation, Mr. Haim Divon, and Deputy Director General for Economic Affairs, Ms. Irit Ben-Abba, with whom he discussed issues of mutual economic interest and the potential for cooperation in a wide range of sectors.

Mr. Papadopoulos also gave an interview on the Greek economy to the Israeli daily Haaretz’s financial magazine, “The Marker,” and was received by the Governor of Israel’s Central Bank, Professor Stanley Fischer, with whom he discussed European and Greek economic developments.

Mr. Papadopoulos also met with the President of the Manufacturers’ Association of Israel, Mr. Shraga Brosh, and the Vice President of the Federation of the Israeli Chambers of Commerce, Mr. Arie Zief. The purpose of these meetings was, among other things, to prepare for the 15 December 2010 business mission to Israel, which will be taking place within the framework of the annual event hosted by the Greek Embassy and Commercial Affairs Office in Israel, with the participation of Greek enterprises and agencies active in the renewable energy source sector.
