Aristidis Calogeropoulos-Stratis

The Secretary General for European AffairsAristidis Calogeropoulos-StratisDr. Aristidis Calogeropoulos-Stratis was born in Athens. He holds a PhD in Political Sciences with a specialization in International Law and a Masters in International Relations from the University of Geneva (IUHEI), as well as a Diploma in International Comparative Law from the International Institute of Human Rights at Strasbourg-René Cassin.

He was President of the Board of International Relations of the Hellenic Red Cross and President of the Association of Greek University Students of Geneva (MINERVA) from 1972 to 1974.

In his professional career, Mr. Calogeropoulos-Stratis served as Information Counsellor and Minister Councellor in the Greek Diplomatic Services in Geneva, Ankara, Brussels and Paris. He also served in the Permanent Greek Representation to the UN and the International Organizations in Geneva, and spokesman for the Third Greek Presidency of the European Union in Brussels in 1994. Furthermore, he has participated as an expert in Greek diplomatic missions to International Conferences.

From January 1998 to December 2002 he was special advisor to the Mayor of Athens Dimitris Avramopoulos, in charge of international relations of the city of Athens.

Since September 2002 he has served as Secretary General of the World Union of Olympic Cities and as Secretary General of the ‘World Institute of Glocal and Cities' Diplomacy’ as well as President of the Centre for International Studies and Political Science “S. C.-S.”

Mr. Calogeropoulos-Stratis also served as President of the Organization of Tourism Education and Training, President of the Greek National Tourism Organization, and Secretary General of the Ministry of Health and Social Solidarity.

Since June 2012, he is Secretary General for European Affairs to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens.

He has published several books, articles and papers, available in Greece, Canada, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands. His latest book, “National Routes”, on Greek foreign policy, was published in 2010.

He has been honored with the French order of Grand Maitre de l’ Ordre National du Merite, the Belgian order of Commandeur de l’ Ordre de la Couronne, and the highest distinction of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem.

He speaks Greek, English and French.
