Commemoration ceremony for the Fallen of the Sacred Battalion in the Battle of Dragatsani (4th April 2015)
A memorial service to honour the fighters of the Sacred Battalion took place in Dragatsani, in the framework of the annual celebrations for the Greek National Day (25th of March).
The Ambassador of Greece to Romania, Grigorios Vassiloconstandakis, the MP and President of the Hellenic Union of Romania, Dragos-Gabriel Zisopol, as well as the Mayor of Dragatsani, Cristian Nedelcu, laid wreaths at the Dragatsani memorial, while a detachment of the Romanian Gendarmerie presented honours.
This year a wreath was also laid by the Governor of the Central Bank of Romania (BNR), Mr. Mugur Isarescu, who participated in the event following an invitation by the Ambassador. Mr. Isarescu originates from the region of Dragatsani, always expressing a warm interest for this great historical event.
The Head of the Consular Office, Mr. Nikolaos Karalekas and the Defence Attaché of the Embassy, Captain (N), Dimitrios Antonarakos also attended the ceremony, while the memorial service was officiated by the Capelin of the Greek Embassy’s Chapel, Father John Moldoveanu.
The event was attended by delegations from many Greek communities of Romania, as well as citizens of Dragatsani.
