Greece is one of the most popular tourist destinations for Swiss people. According to data provided by Bank of Greece, 300.000 Swiss visited our country in 2012, whereas this number increased to 350 – 380.000 for 2013.

Regular daily flights are scheduled out of Zurich, Geneva Airports to Athens and Thessaloniki (Aegean and Swiss Air). In summer, additional charter flights, from Basel and Bern, directly to the Greek islands are also added.

As far as the financial sector is concerned, Swiss investments in Greece have a value of approximately 2 bn Swiss francs (1,4 bn euros). Companies such as Novartis, UBS, Crédit Suisse, Roche, Kraft/Suchard, Atel, Nestle etc. are present in our country. Swiss products exported to Greece are medicines, medical equipment, watches, etc . Total value of Swiss exports is 465 m.euros (2013).

Greek investments to Switzerland had a value of 10,4 million euros (2010). Four companies and their affiliates (Archirodon Old Partners, Piraeus Bank, Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company S.A., M.J.Maillis S.A.) were active in the sectors of real estate, finance, industry and trade. Greek products exported to Switzerland are aerial vehicles, food products, machine oils, clothes, olive oil, cheese, olives, honey, wine etc. The value of exports to Switzerland increased last year and is 115,6 million euros (2013).

Regarding bilateral trade, Switzerland is among the countries, where Greek exports have increased. Greece was the honored country at the annual international trade exhibition Comptoir Suisse, held in Lausanne, 14-23.9.2012.

In November 2013, the Salon Gastronomique Goûts et Terroirs took place very successfully in Bulle (Fribourg), with Greece once more as an honored country. An evening of Greek wine tasting was held in Hotel Bellevue Palace of Berne (February 2014), with the participation of Greek importers and the inclusion of selected Greek wines in the menu of the bar and restaurant of the prestigious hotel.

We should also stress the importance of the 1st business-to-business event “Greek Gourmet and Wine Expo”, that took place in “Mövenpick” Hotel in Zurich (9-10/10/2014) with the participation of more than 50 Greek gourmet product companies.
