I. Diplomatic Relations
Greece is represented in the Dominican Republic through the parallel accreditation of her Embassy in Caracas.
Greece unilaterally consented to a request by the Dominican Republic to upgrade its consular representation from an honorary to an official consul.
II. Framework of Treaties
A convention to abolish tourist visas for Greek passport holders, concluded on 1.2.1985.
III. Cultural Relations
In the Dominican Republic, Greece is promoted through the efforts of the Honorary General Consul Dr. Eduardo Mejia, and also by the Sociedad Dominicana de Estudios Helenicos, which was established there on 25th March 1990. Its president is Professor Dr. Rolando Forestieri Sanabia Tel. (809) 686-7035, 688-0471, Fax: (809) 221-0752, who at his own expense has created in the capital, Santo Domingo, a small but comprehensive Museum called Exibicion Cultural Permanente dedicada a Grecia. Visitors can see Greek books, posters, photographs, maps, folk artefacts, standard Greek products (canned olives and Kalamata olive oil), copies of works of art, coins, etc.
Through the co-operation of our Honorary Consul and the Sociedad Dominicana de Estudios Helenicos, the monograph Recordando a los Griegos (in Spanish) has been published and professor Forestieri has, inter alia, organised symposia on the following subjects:
