The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for Diaspora Greeks, Antonis Diamataris, carried out a two-day visit to Odessa in Ukraine. During his visit, he met with Greek community organizations, Greek entrepreneurs, representatives of Greek shipping concerns, and regional authorities.

Accompanied by Greece’s Consul General in Odessa, Alexios Marios Lyberopoulos, Mr. Diamataris visited the Hellenic Foundation for Culture (HFC, Odessa branch) and laid a wreath at the monument to the Oath of founders of the Society of Friends (Filiki Eteria). He was then given a tour of the Society of Friends Museum by the director of the Odessa Branch of the HFC, S. Paradisopoulos, and met with the chairman of the Branch’s Administrative Board, P. Boumbouras, a Greek entrepreneur and benefactor.

Mr. Diamataris also visited Greece’s Consulate General in Odessa, where he met with the Chairwoman of the Federation of Greek Communities of Ukraine, Alexandra Protsenko-Pitsatzi. He also met with the President of the “G. Maraslis” Community of the Odessa Region, V. Symvoulidis, members of the Community and representatives of other communities of the Region’s cities, as well as with diaspora Greeks.

Finally, the Deputy Minister was taken on a tour of the town’s historic centre and visited old residences and other sights of Greek interest. One of the highlights of the tour was Odessa’s “Greek Park”, a modern project constructed recently as a gift from the Greek entrepreneur P. Boumbouras to the city of Odessa and its residents, as a constant reminder to the city’s residents and visitors of Greece and its importance.
