Secretary General for Int’l Economic Relations, Mr. Papadopoulos, to visit Israel (13-15 December 2010)
The Foreign Ministry’s Secretary General for International Economic Relations and Development Cooperation, Mr. Konstantinos Papadopoulos, will be in Israel from 13 to 15 December, heading a 35-member mission of Greek enterprises and agencies active in the sectors of environmental technology and construction (renewable energy sources, management of solid urban waste, effluent and water resources), information and communication technology, and biotechnology.
This mission is being organized by the Commercial Affairs office of the Greek Embassy in Tel Aviv – in close cooperation with the agency “Invest in Greece”, the Manufacturers Association of Israel and the Association of Israeli Chambers of Commerce – as part of the Embassy’s annual event in honor of economic associates of Greek enterprises in Israel. It is also taking place within the broader framework of the promotion of bilateral economic and trade relations, as well as on the level of creating business synergies, attracting investments and creating synergies beyond the national borders of the two countries.
The participation of Secretary General Papadopoulos is aimed at underscoring the Greek state’s practical support for the organized efforts towards externalization of Greek enterprises.
The principal goal is the setting up of targeted B2B meetings between Greek and Israeli enterprises, in search of any type of cooperation that will benefit both sides. Participation of Israeli enterprises is being ensured by the Greek Embassy and the local Manufacturers Association. Within this framework, the businesspersons will have the opportunity for an initial exchange of views, experiences and know-how vis-à-vis the aforementioned sectors, and they will then explore the potential areas for developing cooperation through the promotion of joint actions and projects in the aforementioned sectors.
The groundwork will be laid for the B2B meetings by a brief seminar with speeches and presentations from both sides, briefing our Israeli partners on the situation as to macroeconomic dimensions, the course of the Greek economy and the business environment, and pointing to opportunities that do exist – despite the problems – for the growth of enterprises on both sides. Within this framework, Mr. Papadopoulos will deliver a speech on “Macroeconomic developments in the Euro Area and Greece’s structural reform programme”.
The Israeli Minister for Industry, Trade and Labor, Mr. Benjamin Ben Eliezer, will also honour the event with his presence and a short welcome speech.
Meetings are also being scheduled for Secretary General Papadopoulos with Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Ami Ayalon, the Secretary General of the Israeli Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, Mr. Sharon Kedmi, as well as Israeli Foreign Ministry officials, for the purpose of promoting issues of mutual economic interest, with particular emphasis on the prospects for cooperation between the business communities of the two countries in a wide range of sectors.
