Wednesday, 07 August 2019

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonis Diamataris received the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II, at his office.

His Beatitude talked about the extensive philanthropic work of the Patriarchate, which supervises 2,000 schools and 3,500 medical centres that provide free services.
He then referred to the plan to create an “Alexander the Great” Academy of Hellenism at the Averof Foundation of Alexandria, with the aim of providing cycles of seminars on the language, culture and history of Greece for the younger generation of Greeks and Egyptians. His Beatitude also briefed Mr. Diamataris on the renovation of the Patriarchal Library by the Anastasios Leventis Foundation and invited the Deputy Minister to visit Alexandria.

Mr. Diamataris thanked His Beatitude, stressing that the state firmly supports the Church, including through practical support for its humanitarian and pastoral actions.
