Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement on the appointment of Panagiotis Pavlopoulos as the new Secretary General for European Affairs

Mr. Panagiotis Pavlopoulos is taking over as the new Secretary General for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs starting today, following publication of his appointment in the Government Gazette.

Panagiotis Pavlopoulos was born in 1962, in Thessaloniki. He graduated from the Leontio Lyceum in Patissia. He studied Economics in the U.S., at the University of Minnesota (B.A.) as well as at American University (M.A.). He completed a course of studies in economic policy at the Kiel Institute of World Economy, in Germany. He is a permanent staff member at the Hellenic Parliament, at the Directorate of European Affairs. From 2011, he served as an advisor in European Affairs to the President of SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras. From January 2015 through October 2018, he was the Head of the Prime Minister’s Directorate for European Affairs and International Relations. He speaks English and French and is the father of two boys.
