Ministry of Foreign Affairs announcement on the operation of the Joint Interdisciplinary Committee of Experts between Greece and fYROM on historical, archaeological, and educational issues (Athens, 2 November 2018)

Friday, 02 November 2018

Today, Friday 2 November, work begins of the Joint Interdisciplinary Committee of Experts between Greece and FYROM on historical, archaeological, and educational issues. The Prespa Agreement is clear with regard to the fact that the Committee shall operate temporarily while entry into force of the Treaty is pending.

This agreed upon temporary operation is due to the fact that both Sides acknowledge that until then, all the necessary decisions must have been made so that, by the next school year, no school textbook or supplementary school material shall include irredentist/revisionist references, as clearly dictated by the Prespa Agreement.

We all know that a period of several months is required in order for the decisions pertaining to school textbooks to be implemented, and consequently, these will need to have been taken in a timely manner in order for their implementation to be possible immediately after entry into force of the Prespa Agreement, in observance of the timetable which the two Sides have committed to.The Joint Interdisciplinary Committee of Experts between Greece and FYROM shall work in this perspective.
