International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA)

Friday, 20 September 2019

The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance is the largest global organization bringing together government agencies, members of the academic community and experts with the aim of formulating and promoting Holocaust education, remembrance and research; discussing Holocaust-related issues, including anti-Semitism; and supporting the commitments of the Stockholm Declaration of 2000.

The IHRA was launched in 1998 – as the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance, and Research – by former Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson. The IHRA currently has 33 member states, a liaison country, eight liaison states and eight permanent international partners, including the UN, the EU and UNESCO.

Greece has been a full member of the IHRA since 2005. At the November 2018 Plenary Meeting of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance in Ferrara, Italy, it was unanimously decided that Greece will assume the 2021 presidency of the Alliance.
