The European Parliament (EP) is one of the three institutional branches of the European Union (alongside the Council and the European Commission), where political debate and decision making on the EU level takes place. Greece holds twenty one (21) seats in the EP. Greek MEPs belong to the following political groups (in order from the biggest group): 8 MEPs belong to the European People’s Party (EPP), 2 MEPs to the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), 1 MEP to the Renew Europe (ECR) Group, 6 MEPs to the Confederal Group of the European United Left- Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) and 4 MEPs are non-aligned.
