Cultural Relations and Greek Community

There have been ongoing migratory flows from Greece to Argentina since the end of the 19th century which culminated in the years between the two wars. Migration to Argentina continued into the mid-1960s. It is estimated that some 20,000 to 30,000 persons of Greek origin currently reside in Argentina, and there are Greek communities in the wider region of Buenos Aires. A bilingual daily primary school, as well as secondary school of the central community of Buenos Aires operates under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. This school has been granted equivalence to Argentinean schools. There is also a Greek Cultural non-profit foundation in Buenos Aires, the “Fundacion Helenica”, aimed at promoting Greek culture.

Buenos Aires is the seat of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of South America.
