Dear Compatriots,<\/p>\n
It is with profound emotion that we commemorate once again the
\nanniversary of the Greek War of Independence, a defining historical
\nmilestone which led to the establishment of the modern Greek state and
\nshaped the course of Hellenism all over the world, forging a strong
\nnational consciousness.<\/p>\n
In this context, our thoughts turn not only to the fighters who
\nraised the banner of Freedom on our ancestral soil, but also to the
\nGreeks of the Diaspora, whose contribution was pivotal to the rebirth of
\n the Nation after more than 400 years of Ottoman rule.<\/p>\n
The Revolution of 1821 was not only a glorious armed struggle, but
\nalso an intellectual one, inspired by the timeless values of Hellenism
\nand the teachings of the European Enlightenment. The Greek Diaspora, in
\nclose cooperation with the Philhellenic movement, transformed cities
\nsuch as Paris, Marseille, London, Vienna, Odessa, Trieste, and many
\nothers into vibrant centers of support for the Struggle. In these
\nplaces, the Greek Diaspora preserved Greek education and cultivated the
\nideals of freedom and national independence. It was there that the
\nintellectual rebirth of the subjugated Nation was founded, the Philiki
\nEtaireia was established, the necessary resources were gathered, and the
\n network enabling the launch and sustained support of the Struggle was
\nformed.<\/p>\n
At that time, Greeks of the Diaspora stood by our homeland with
\nselflessness, devotion, and unparalleled resolve. By carrying forward
\nthis great legacy, you continue to support Greece with unwavering
\ndedication, promoting Greek culture and preserving our ancient language
\nand timeless values in every corner of the world.<\/p>\n
A world which, regrettably, is beset today by successive crises,
\nprotracted armed conflicts, and growing insecurity and instability. From
\n Ukraine to the Middle East, and from Africa to the Eastern
\nMediterranean, the principles of the United Nations Charter and the
\nrules of International Law are being violated on a daily basis, calling
\ninto question the international order established after the end of the
\nSecond World War.<\/p>\n
In this adverse environment, Greece remains a strong beacon of
\ndemocracy, peace, and stability. With realism, confidence in our
\nstrengths, and commitment to international legitimacy, we defend the
\nindependence, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity of our
\nhomeland, as well as the rights and the stature of Hellenism worldwide.
\nThe recent deployment of Greek air and naval forces to Cyprus sent both a
\n symbolic and substantive message that Greece will always stand by the
\nHellenism of Cyprus.<\/p>\n
At the same time, our thoughts and hearts are with the Greeks living
\nin regions afflicted by war, whether in Ukraine or, of course, in the
\nMiddle East. We are aware that many of you experience daily uncertainty
\nand concern for the safety of your families. The Greek State remains
\nconstantly vigilant, closely monitoring developments and standing by
\nyour side, making use of every available means.<\/p>\n
Greeks of the world,<\/p>\n
The Greek Diaspora constitutes a vibrant force that works,
\nprogresses, and projects Greece\u2019s voice far beyond its borders. On this
\nday, I express to you the sincere gratitude of us all. Greece honors you
\n and is proud of you being an integral part of our national course. Let
\nus never forget that Hellenism endures and thrives whenever it stands
\nunited and resolute in the face of the challenges and hardships of each
\nera.<\/p>\n
With these thoughts, I invite you to celebrate this great day of the
\nanniversary of the Greek War of Independence and the Annunciation of the
\n Virgin Mary with joy and pride. I wholeheartedly wish to you all, many
