Rare are the occasions of two nations such as Greece and Japan to cross paths. Yet in New York, the cultural encounters are inevitable and very much welcome. It is in this spirit that the Consulate General of Greece in New York was delighted to host an art exhibition by a friend of Greece and its culture; Masaaki Noda. The opening was held on October 10, inside the Consulate\u2019s exhibition hall.<\/p>\n
The acclaimed Japanese-American artist moved to New York City in 1977 and has since built a successful career as a printmaker, draughtsman, painter, collagist and sculptor. He became acquainted with Greece in the \u201890s while travelling to the country for an ad hoc journey to Lefkada, the birthplace of Lafcadio Hearn. Noda has contributed to Greek-Japanese art interactions with his works \u201cApollo\u2019s Mirror\u201d in Delphi (currently on display), \u201cThe Spirit of Hermes\u201d in Marathon, and \u201cThe Open Mind of Lafcadio Hearn\u201d at The American College of Greece in Athens.<\/p>\n
\u2018Spiral Interaction 1995-2018\u2019 is a celebration of fluidity in movement with subtle archetypical symbolism. The artworks are a mixture of visual delicacy, formal aesthetic and mystical response. As Noda himself describes it: \u201cmy work is an inspired exploration of artistic conflict between form and abstraction and personal conflict between the imagined and the real\".<\/p>\n
The exhibit runs through October 24, at the Consulate General of Greece in New York.<\/p>\n
