INVITATION THE CONSULATE GENERAL OF GREECE IN SYDNEY CELEBRATES 100 YEARS
The Consulate General of Greece in Sydney is proudly celebrating its 100th anniversary, marking a century since its establishment on 20 May 1926, when the first Consul General, Mr. Leonidas Chrysanthopoulos, arrived in Sydney. The milestone will be commemorated through a series of cultural, academic, and artistic events throughout May and June 2026.
The anniversary program will open on Saturday, 23 May 2026 at 10:30 a.m., with the presentation of a book by historian Dr. Panayiotis Diamadis, documenting the 100-year history and the contribution of the Consulate General of Greece to the Greek Community in Sydney.The Master of Ceremonies will be Themis Kallos, Executive Producer of SBS Greek, together with Maria Kakali, President of SUGS. The event will take place at The Gallery – Events by Alpha (Level 1, 238 Castlereagh Street, Sydney).
On June 5, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., Greek and Greek-Australian comedians will entertain the audience in a lively showdown of stereotypes, culture, and identity between the homeland and the Greek diaspora in Australia. The show, titled “Battle of the Greeks: The Great Greek Comedy Roast,” will feature Greek-Australian comedians Anthony Locascio, Charisa Bossinakis, George Moulos, alongside Greece-based comedians Katerina Vrana, Yiannis Sarakatsanis, Nefeli Meg. The event will take place at Darling Quarter (1/25 Harbour Street).
On Saturday, 6 June 2026, at 3:00 p.m., Dr. Fay Makantasi, Research Director at diaNEOsis, one of Greece’s leading independent research and policy institutes, will deliver a lecture analysing economic and social aspects of contemporary Greek reality at The Brighton (2 Princess Street, Brighton-Le-Sands, NSW 2216). The MC for the event will be Paul Nicolaou, Executive Chairman of Business Sydney.
The program concludes on 7 June 2026 at 5:00 p.m. with the theatrical performance “Lemonia” at The Factory Theatre / Fusebox (105 Victoria Road, Marrickville), a monologue by Alexandra Ousta. The performance is based on real cassette recordings of a young Greek migrant woman in the 1970s, reflecting themes of migration, alienation, family and marriage.
The Consulate General of Greece in Sydney invites all to attend and participate in the centenary commemorative events marking 100 years of the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney.
Admission to all events is free of charge.
