

The International Greek Language Day in Armenia
On February 12, the Embassy of Greece in Armenia and Brusov State University co-organized a cultural event dedicated to the International Day of the Greek Language.
Τhe Rector of Brusov State University, Mr. D. Gyurjinyan, in his welcoming speech underlined the importance of the linguistic and cultural ties between Greeks and Armenians. The Ambassador of Greece in Armenia, Mr. Christos Sofianopoulos, highlighted the significance of the International Day of the Greek Language and spoke about the historical evolution of the Greek language, emphasizing its universality and continuity. The main lectures were delivered by the senior scholars of ancient Greek literature at the Museum of Ancient Manuscripts "Matenadaran", Ms. A. Topchyan and G. Muradyan, who respectively spoke about the history of the translation of ancient Greek literature into Armenian and about the origin and important facts in the history of the Greek language. Students and teachers of the Greek language at the Centers of Greek Studies of Brusov State University and Yerevan State University, as well as of the Military Academy of Armenia, recited modern Greek poems accompanied by Greek music.
The event was attended by the EU Ambassador in Armenia, Mr. V. Maragos, the Head of the Military Academy of Armenia, Colonel, Mr. A. Mangasaryan, the Director of the Languages Committee of the Armenian Ministry of Education, Ms. S. Dvoyan, teachers, students, representatives of the Greek diaspora and friends of Greece.
