Ambassador Georges Papacostas
Ambassador Georges Papacostas was born in Athens, Greece.
Ambassador Georges Papacostas joined the Greek Diplomatic Service in 1992. From September 2016 until February 2020 he served as Ambassador of the Hellenic Republic to the Democratic Republic of Congo, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Angola, the Central African Republic, the Republic of Chad, the Republic of the Congo and the Gabonese Republic. During his career, he has been posted to the Embassies of Greece in Slovenia, Sweden, Armenia and to the Permanent Representation of Greece to the European Union, Brussels. He also headed the Office of the Greek Parliament to the European Parliament in Brussels.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens, Ambassador Mr Georges Papacostas was Director of the Special Service of Coordination and Implementation of Funding and Investment programmes, and has served in the Directorate for European Union Common Foreign and Security Policy; the Directorate for European Integration and Economic Monetary Policy; the Directorate for Human Rights, Minorities, Refugees and Migrants; the Directorate for Justice, Home Affaires and Schengen; and in the Deputy Minister’s Diplomatic Cabinet, as well as the Office of the Diplomatic Advisor to the Hellenic Parliament.
Ambassador Papacostas holds a degree in Law from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, and is fluent in French and English.
