Theft - loss of passport
In case of loss or theft of a passport, the holder is obliged to immediately submit a report to the nearest of the incidents’ police authority, obtaining the relevant Attestation which he/she submits to the Consular Authority, where he/she also submits a statutory declaration under Article 8 of Law 1599/1986 regarding the place, time and circumstances of the loss or theft of the passport or the ID.
The Consular Authority conducts an investigation on the circumstances of the loss or theft of the passport, which may take up to three (3) months from the date of submission of the declaration. During this period no new passport can be issued. In the case of a new declaration, by the same person, of loss or theft of a passport within five years, the investigation may take up to one (1) year, depending on the seriousness of the case. During the investigation to determine the circumstances of the theft or loss, no new passport shall be issued to the applicant.
Emergency travel document
It is issued for a single only trip for repatriationto Greece, in cases of loss or theft of travel documents or in other cases of force majeure.
NOTE:Emergency Travel Documentis not issued, normally, in case of expiry of a passport and non-timely issue of a new one.
Required documents:
1. Application form
2. Two color photos.
3. Identity card or certificate of registration in a municipal register.
If the person concerned does not have an ID card or has lost it, he/she must come with a witness (adult holder of a valid passport/ID card), who will confirm the identity of the interested party.
4. A certificate from the nearest police authority that a declaration of loss or theft has been submitted accordingly.
5. A declaration of the place, time and circumstances of the loss or theft of the passport in accordance with Article 8 of Law 1599/1986.
