Dr Stavros Kyrimis

Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

Dr. Stavros Kyrimis is a seasoned career diplomat. He arrived in Caracas on 29 July 2025, and his accreditation process was successfully completed on 14 August 2025, formally assuming his duties as Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Prior to his assignment in Caracas, he served for two years as Director of Humanitarian Aid at the Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Athens. In this capacity, he led the department responsible for coordinating Greece’s humanitarian response to major international crises and represented Greece in high-level fora, including international conferences and meetings with the European Union, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organizations.

Before his post in Athens, Dr. Kyrimis held a series of senior diplomatic assignments in the Middle East where he served as Consul General of Greece in Erbil for two and a half  years, with jurisdiction over the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, including Mosul and Kirkuk. Preceding this, he served for three and a half years as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Greece in Tehran(Islamic Republic of Iran). Earlier in his career, he completed a five-year tenure as Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Australia.

Dr. Kyrimis has a deep understanding of defence, security, and geopolitics, acquired over more than fifteen years of service in various national and international positions in Brussels and Athens. His contributions to European defence were recognised by the French Ministry of Defence, which named him a “Personnalité d’Avenir dans le domaine de la Défense” in 2016.

Dr. Kyrimis holds a Doctorate in International Public Law (with high distinction) from Paris XI University’s Jean Monnet Faculty of Law and four master’s degrees from the University of Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne), Paris II (Panthéon-Assas), the Institut International d’Administration Publique (IIAP-Grand Ecole), and Paris XI University. He also holds a law degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

He is fluent in English and French, with working knowledge of Italian. He is married with four children.
