The Embassy of Greece in the UK, the Consular Office in London, and the Consulate General in Manchester will remain closed on Wednesday, 25 March, in observance of the National holiday.
The Embassy of Greece in the United Kingdom, the Consular Office in London, and the Consulate General in Manchester are open daily, except on official Greek public holidays.
3. Determination of the citizenship of a child out of wedlock by a Greek father and a foreign mother
In case the mother of the child born out of wedlock is a foreigner and the father is Greek, a different procedure is followed regarding his declaration: A birth certificate is drawn up and the father requests the determination of Greek Citizenship. The Directorate of Citizenship issues the relevant decision, which it sends to the competent Municipality for the registration of the child.
Supporting documents:
• Birth Declaration Application: Please fill in the application form in Greek before arriving at the Consular Office.
• Application for determination of nationality
• Original birth certificate from a British registry (Full Birth Certificate), which bears the signatures of both parents, authenticated with an Apostille stamp by the competent British Authorities.
• Non impediment certificate or No trace of marriage for the mother, issued by the competent authorities of her country of origin with the Apostille stamp. If the country of origin has not ratified the Hague Convention (Apostille), then ratification is required by the competent Greek Consular Authority of the country or by the country's Diplomatic Authority in Greece and the Centre for the Service and Information of Greeks Citizens and Abroad – Ratification Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (K.E.P.P.A.E. Akadimias 3, Athens).
• Official translation into Greek of the above, i.e. the Full / Long Birth Certificate and the Certificate of Celibacy with the stamp Apostille. For the official translation, you can contact either translators of the Register of Certified Translators of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or a certified lawyer in Greece, or a graduate translator of the Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University.
• Valid passports of both parents and the child or the father's identity card.
