ETA authorisation will be needed for entry of Greek citizens in the UK from 2 April 2025

It is reminded that Greek citizens, as well as citizens of other EU countries, will need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) in order to enter the UK for short period of stay from 2 April 2025. The applications are already open since 5 March 2025. According to the UK authorities, an ETA application must be submitted before the travel to the UK, but it is advised to allow for at least 3 working days before travelling.

UK ETA has a 2 year duration for multiple entries, as long as the linked passport is valid, and will be needed for all points of entry. According to the provided information, a photo of the applicant and their passport will be required, replies to some questions and the payment of a 10 GBP fee. Starting from 9.4.2025, the fee will increase to 16 GBP.

The following categories are exempt from the ETA obligation: a) UK/Irish passport holders, b) permanent residents in the UK (including settled and pre-settled status holders), c) people who are required to submit standard visitor visa application for short stay in the UK, d) people transitting through the UK without undergoing passport control (airside transit).
