The Consul General
First Counsellor Mr. Vasileios KONIAKOS is currently the Consul General of Greece in Shanghai. As an undergraduate, he studied Politics and International Relations at Panteion University of Athens and the Institut d΄ Etudes Politiques (IEP) in Paris. He is also a holder of a Master’s Degree (MSc) in Global History from the London School of Economics.
He started work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in July 2005 serving at the Office of the Director General for EU Affairs until May 2007. He was subsequently posted at the Office of the Secretary General of the Ministry. In August 2008 he assumed duties at the Permanent Representation of the Hellenic Republic to the EU in Brussels, as Secretary of Embassy. In 2013 he became Head of the European Parliament Unit of the Permanent Representation and in 2014, during the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the EU, and chaired the General Affairs Group (Institutional Affairs) of the EU Council. In August 2014 he was posted as Secretary of Embassy at the political section of the Embassy of the Hellenic Republic to the People’s Republic of China. In October 2016 he was repatriated and assigned duties at the Diplomatic Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs as Counsellor. In September 2019 he took up his current function.
Mr. Koniakos is married to Mrs Emilie Marinova and has two children. He is fluent in French and English and has basic understanding of Chinese (Mandarin).
