Celebration of National Day of the Hellenic Republic

Wednesday, 26 March 2025

On March 24 from 17:30 to 19:30, the celebration of the National Day of March 25th took place at the premises of the Consulate General of Shanghai.

As part of the celebration of this important day for Greece, the event also aimed to strengthen the relations of Greeks residing in Shanghai. The celebration was introduced with a short speech by the Consul General, Mr. Georgios Partheniou. It was stressed that this was a day of paramount importance for Greece and all Greeks living abroad and an opportunity to bring up collective memories. After first making mention to the historical circumstances of the creation of the new Greek State, Mr. Partheniou, among other things, pointed out:

"Today Greece is on the path of development and progress. The Bible of the Digital Transformation Strategy (2020-2025) and the Next Generation EU programme are indicative, and demonstrate the dynamic role of our country. Specific findings of the digitally changing environment in Greece lead to general conclusions about the progress that has already been achieved and will be maximised.

At the same time, our country is once again assuming its role as a factor of peace and security in a particularly difficult current context.

Being among the 51 founding members of the UN, our country remains committed to universal principles and international law, and actively participates in its proceedings, in coordination with our partners in the EU. It is worth noting that Greece was elected as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, and from the beginning of the year, at a particularly critical juncture, has taken up the position of non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Consequently, Greece partakes in the global security architecture. Therefore, undoubtedly, it is certainly expected to play a constructive role in addressing international challenges."

The event was attended by all the staff of the Consulate General of Greece in Shanghai and, in particular, by Greeks in Shanghai who are active, indicatively, in the business or education sector. A message of the President of the Hellenic Republic was also shown on a special screen, as well as material regarding the national anniversary but also the sectors in which our Greece operates with great success.
