Political Relations
Greek-Cypriot political relations are excellent, reflect the closeness of the two societies and are developing constantly in every sector. Contacts are very close and are characterized by frequent meetings between the political leaderships of the two countries on all levels, with the aim of optimum coordination of actions concerning the Cyprus issue and other regional and EU issues. The bilateral agreements that have been signed by the two countries reflect this state of affairs and cover a wide range of cooperation sectors. A milestone for their bilateral relations was the 1st Intergovernmental Summit (I.S.) between Greece and Cyprus in Athens, in 9-10 November 2023, with the participation of Greece’s Prime Minister and the President of the Republic of Cyprus. The decision for the institutionalization of bilateral Intergovernmental Summits had been taken during the first visit of President Christodoulides to Athens, in 13 March 2023.
