Greece has been a candidate for a member on the ICAO Council on previous elections of 1947, 1977, 1980 and 1983, without having been elected so far.
Greece became member of the sub-regional rotational group CERG (Central European Rotation Group) in November 2014. Other members of CERG group are: Bulgaria, Cyprus, Lithuania, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia and Czech Republic.
Greece is represented to the Air Navigation Committee (ANC) by Mrs. Elpida Koryfidou, Greek Civil Aviation Authority Executive. Mrs. Koryfidou was elected as one of the 19 members of the ANC by the Council, in November 2016 and she participates as a Commissioner on a three-year term appointment. It should be noted that since it is the first time Greece occupies a similar position in an extremely important ICAO body.
Regarding the representation of Greece in the ICAO Secretariat, Greece currently occupies one of its two corresponding posts (one employee (level P-4) serving at the ICAO Regional Office in Paris). Position distribution is a result of each country’s contribution to the ICAO budget and the criterion of balanced geographical representation.
