World tourism awards for 2014 celebrated its 21st anniversary which took place in the beginning (1-3) of August at the Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso in Athens. World Tourism Awards aim to reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global tourism industry. Founded in 1993, World Tourism Awards is known as “the Oscars of the travel industry” by Wall Street Journal.
Acropolis in Athens was voted as the Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction.
Corfu island received the Europe’s Leading Beach Destination award. 
Moreover, Divani Apollon Palace & Thalasso was announced to be Europe’s Leading Spa Hotel whereas the Grand Resort Lagonissi won the title of Europe’s Leading Meetings & Conference Center.
Porto Zante Villas gained two awards, the former award was that of Europe’s Leading Luxury Beach Villas and the latter award was Europe’s Leading Private Beach Hotel.
In addition, Aegean Airlines was honored with the title of Europe’s Leading Regional Airline.
Finally, Costa Navarino acquired the title of Europe’s Responsible Tourism Award. Notably, the Chairman of the World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke, underlined the fact that Costa Navarino is already among the most reputed brands in Europe.
