(18-20.2.2014) Visit of the Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Kyriakos Gerontopoulos in Romania
The Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Kyriakos Gerontopoulos visited Romania and had a series of contacts and meetings with Greeks living and working in the country.
Visit to Constanta
First stop of the visit was in Constanta. Mr. Gerontopoulos accompanied by the Ambassador of Greece to Romania Mr. Grigorios Vassiloconstandakis, met members of the local Greek Community and prominent Greek businessmen and investors of the region. Greek students of the University of Constanta also attended.
The Greek official has also visited the cemetery of the city and laid a wreath on the monument of the fallen Greek soldiers of the 7th Infantry Regiment who lost their lives in the Crimean front, in 1919. The monument has been erected by the Greek Community of Constanta.
Visit of the Greek School of Bucharest "Athena"
On the second day of his visit to Romania, the Deputy Foreign Minister visited the Greek School of Bucharest "Athena". Mr. Gerontopoulos was welcomed by the students and the teachers of the school, and met the Board of the Association of Parents. The Deputy Minister was informed on the activities of the School and the future plans of the Association of Parents for the further improvement of this institution.
Visit to the Faculty of Modern Greek Studies of Bucharest University
Α very important moment of the presence of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in Romania, was his visit to the Faculty of Modern Greek Studies of Bucharest University, which was founded in 2001. Mr. Gerontopoulos was welcomed by the Dean of the faculty and many students, with which he discussed in Greek.
"I am very happy to see so many students wishing to learn the Greek language in Romania and get to know better our culture. You are the best ambassadors of Greece to your country, and of Romania to Greece. Thank you very much for your choice and since you participate in the Greek culture, we consider you as Greeks ", said the Deputy Minister.
During his stay in Bucharest, Mr. Gerontopoulos met with members of the Hellenic Union of Romania and representatives of the other Greek communities in the country. He has been briefed on their activities, the dynamic presence of Hellenism in Romania over time and the presence of many of our expatriates in significant posts of the local administration.
