Replacement of UK physical immigration documents with e-visas
As a result of the UK authorities’ intention to fully replace the UK physical immigration documents with e-visas, the right to reside in the UK will soon only be proven online, by demonstration of a share code generated by the beneficiary’s UKVI account https://www.gov.uk/view-prove-immigration-status. In the same way, settled/pre-settled status holders can confirm their entitlement to enter the UK with their Greek/EU IDcard https://www.gov.uk/guidance/visiting-the-uk-as-an-eu-eea-or-swiss-citizen.
During the current transitional period, at least until 31.3.2025, physical immigration documents (even if they expired on 31.12.2024 or later) can still be used to enter the UK, as long as the immigration entitlement is valid (settled/pre-settled status or other residence right in the UK). However, in preparation for the full implementation of e-visas, the residents in the UK are advised to create a UKVI account https://www.gov.uk/guidance/online-immigration-status-evisa.
The aforementioned information concern citizens with a residence right in the UK. Greek citizens visiting the UK for a short time can still enter with a valid passport as they used to, until the implementation of the ETA to EU/EEA citizens on 2.4.2025.
