The visit of the Consul General to Yunnan

On 28 and 29 April 2025, the Consul General of Greece in Guangzhou, Mrs. Gina Andreadi and her team visited the beautiful province of Yunnan and held meetings with officials in Kunming, both from the provincial and city governments.


The Consul General was welcomed by Mr. Yang Shaocheng, Party Secretary and Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Yunnan Province and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation between Greece and Yunnan in various sectors, including trade, industry, agriculture, research and development, education, environmental protection, green energy, tourism and culture. Mrs. Andreadi introduced Greece’s economic, trade and investment environment and opportunities, Greek initiatives towards clean energy use, digital transformation and transition to sustainability, as well as its key economic and export-oriented sectors, where partnerships with Yunnan industries and companies could be pursued. Mr. Yang presented Yunnan’s key characteristics, products and industries and invited Greek officials to visit Yunnan and establish closer collaboration between the two sides. Mrs. Andreadi also met with Mrs. Liu Lina, Deputy Director General and Party Group Member of the Yunnan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and held a friendly and fruitful discussion on the rich history of both Greek and Chinese civilizations and on the possibilities of cultural, educational and tourist collaboration. Mrs. Liu presented Yunnan’s rich cultural heritage and booming tourist sector and suggested ways to bring it closer to the Greek public. The Consul General agreed that both Yunnan and Greece are premium tourist destinations ready to be discovered through promotional campaigns, academic cooperation, museum exhibitions and outdoor festivals and activities.


The Consul General also held a very productive meeting with the Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Yunnan Sub-Council, Mrs. Bao Wentao. The two sides explored areas of possible collaboration in various industrial and service sectors, including in the pharmaceutical and medicinal industries. Both sides agreed on the need to establish communication channels at both governmental and enterprise level, as well as information exchange in order to gain market knowledge and foster deeper bilateral ties between Greece and Yunnan Province across a range of sectors.

Last but not least, the Consul General had a warm and constructive meeting with Mrs. Chen Xiao, Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Kunming Municipal People’s Government and exchanged ideas on enhancing cooperation at city and municipal level between Kunming and Greece. Mrs. Chen highlighted Kunming’s advantages as the capital of Yunnan Province, its trade, industry and business environment, its academic and cultural output, as well as its premium tourist product that attracts millions of domestic and foreign visitors annually. Both sides agreed to establish closer relations at all levels, including twinning of cities, official visits and tourist and academic exchanges. The Consul General expressed her sincere appreciation for the warm hospitality and the constructive dialogue with all officials in Yunnan and looks forward to building on this momentum.
