Jiangsu-Attica Youth Exchange Launching Ceremony
The Jiangsu-Attica Youth Exchange Launching Ceremony featuring the partnership between the Region of Attica and Jiangsu Province was held on November 21th in the city of Nanjing. The Consul General of Greece in Shanghai, Mr. Spyridon Kritikos, together with the Head of the Public Diplomacy Office, participated in the event.
On the Chinese side, the event was attended by Mr. Shen Yanfei, the Deputy Director-General of Jiangsu Provincial Foreign Affairs Office and Mr. Yang Shubing, the Deputy Director-General of Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education.
During the ceremony, a video speech was also delivered by Mr. Nikos Hardalias, the Governor of the Attica Region.
Highlighting the important role of the partnership and the Exchange Program between Jiangsu Province and the Region of Attica, the Consul General, in his speech addressing the students, among others, stressed:
“I am sure that for students from Jiangsu, visiting Greece provides the opportunity to experience a completely different culture, history, and way of life. It will encourage you to think globally, fostering an understanding of the interconnectedness of different societies and cultures. This will broaden your perspective beyond China's glorious historical and cultural context. Both ancient Greece and modern Greece have significantly influenced the world. Experiencing this influence firsthand, will enable you to appreciate the deep roots of Western civilisation and the contributions of Greek culture to philosophy, art, politics, and science. The exposure to Classical Antiquity will be also valuable: Greece is home to some of the most important historical sites in the world, such as the Acropolis, Parthenon, Delphi and Mycenae, places that you will visit. These sites offer a tangible connection to the ancient world, and this visit will enhance the rationale and intention of studying history, philosophy, or the ats.”
The Head of the Public Diplomacy Office, in his turn, made a comparative projection of the benefits of visiting a new environment by simulating the way in which a robot observes and explores, pointing out with emphasis that the students’ visit has a similar exploratory form through the ‘navigation both to Ancient and Modern Greece’.
