Greek War Memorial
Greece, although depopulated after the devastating World War II, was among the countries that responded to the international call on fighting for the universal values of Democracy and Freedom, by dispatching to Korea 9 airplanes and 10.824 officers and soldiers, of whom 194 died on the War fields. Some 2 million military personnel from over 20 countries among which the Greek Expeditionary Force came to Korea's aid, risking their lives fighting on the front lines and tending to the fallen. S.Korea remembers those who fought and laid down their lives to defend our sacred, shared values of freedom and democracy and in honor of those who participated, were injured or lost their lifes, the South Korean government raised the Greek War Memorial in the town of Yeoju in 1974. Later, the Monument of Greek Soldiers Fallen during the Korean War was relocated to the Yeoju Yeongwol Park in Seoul and the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Mr. Nikolaos Hardalias, representing the Hellenic Government and the Ministry of National Defence, attended, Wednesday 7 September 2022, the inauguration ceremony.
