The Deputy Foreign Minister for International Economic Relations,
Dimitris Mardas, completed his four-day visit to the U.S. (New York
City, Washington, DC) today, within the framework of his participation,
as a keynote speaker, in the 17th Invest in Greece Forum, which took
place in New York City on 14 December 2015.
During his stay in the U.S., Mr. Mardas had a number of meetings with U.S. government officials, as well as with heads of major American investment houses and businesses.
More specifically, Mr. Mardas met with the U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Catherine Novelli, with whom he discussed ways to enhance Greek-U.S. bilateral economic cooperation and attract American investments to Greece, with particular emphasis on the computer and software sectors.
Mr. Mardas also met with Gus Bilirakis and Caroline Maloney, co-chairs of the Hellenic Caucus in the U.S. Congress, with whom he discussed the prospects for development of Greek-U.S. bilateral relations.
Mr. Mardas also participated in a roundtable discussion organized by the Brookings Institution on the issue of the investment environment in Greece, at which he had the opportunity to set out the government’s new policies for attracting new foreign direct investments and promoting exports. He also met with representatives and companies of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, with whom he discussed the prospects and opportunities for American companies in the Greek market.
Finally, Mr. Mardas had a courtesy meeting with Archbishop Demetrios of America, as well as meetings with representatives of Greek American and other organizations.
