Implementation of Entry Exit System for travel to Europe (Schengen area) from 12 of October, 2025

Wednesday, 08 October 2025

Starting from the 12th of October 2025, the Entry Exit System will be implemented in Greece and other Schengen member countries, replacing the physical stamps on travel documents with the electronic registration and of the travellers’ entry and exit information. The system will enter into force gradually in the whole of Schengen area, and is expected to be completely implemented by the 10th of April, 2026.

The Entry Exit System facilitates the border controls and the calculation of the permitted time period of stay, by registration of biometric data (photo and fingerprints) and details regarding the arrival and departure at the first point of entry into the Schengen area. This new process affects non-EU citizens, including Japanese citizens, who travel to Greece and other Schengen countries for a short period of stay.
