Political Relations
Greece’s accession to the EEC in 1981 was a milestone in Greek-Irish relations (Ireland had been a member since 1973), given that ever since meetings take place on a regular basis. Greece and Ireland have traditionally maintained friendly relations. Both countries are members of the EU, the UN, the OSCE and the Eurozone.

Cultural Relations and Greek Community
The Greek community in Ireland, including the Cypriots, consists of about 5,000 people, with the main body being the Hellenic Community of Ireland, which was founded in 1964 and has about 250 registered members, most of whom live in the Dublin area. There is also a Greek Orthodox Community “The Annunciation of the Virgin Mary’. Educational relations between Greece and Ireland are regulated by the 1980 Educational Agreement and are implemented through Executive Programs. A Greek LanguageDepartment has been operating in Dublin since October 2003. Ancient Greek and Greek Civilization are taught in the Classics Departments of major Irish Universities(University College of Dublin, Trinity College of Dublin). It is worth noting that the Greek language has been taught in Dublin continuously since 1592.Useful Information
