The leadership of the Greek Ministry of Labour, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity had consecutive meetings with top officials of the International Labour Organization, at ILO headquarters in Geneva on 6 and 8 October 2015. Minister of Labour Georgios Katroungalos and the Director-General of the ILO Guy Ryder held a productive and positive exchange of views on 8 October. In the same spirit, Alternate Minister Rania Antonopoulou met with the Assistant Director-General and Regional Director of Europe and Central Asia Heinz Koller. During these meetings the excellent relations and cooperation between the Greek government and the ILO were reaffirmed and a strong framework for enhanced further collaboration was inaugurated. In this framework, D-G Guy Ryder announced his intention to visit Athens in late November 2015 for a new round of talks with the Greek government and its social partners. D-G Guy Ryder requested the arrangement of a meeting with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras during his stay in Athens. It should be reminded that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met in Geneva with D-G Ryder in December 2014. On his part, Minister Katrougalos underlined that Greece’s labour reforms constitutes a European issue, with wider international reprecussions. He said that the Greek government has achieved the participation of the ILO in the talks with the country’s partners to strengthen Greece’s negotiating position and internationalize the labour issue.
