UNESCO commemorates the 50th anniversary of the death of George N. Papanikolaou (1883 – 1962)

In 2012 we commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of George N. Papanikolaou, one of the greatest medical scientists of the 20th century. Papanikolaou invented the famous "pap-test," a test which detects uterine cancer in the early stages and which has saved the lives of millions of women worldwide.
