Photography and Filming in Greece
In Greece, filming and photography in open public spaces are generally permitted without prior authorization, provided they do not offend public decency or undermine public interest and do not impede the normal flow of pedestrian or vehicle traffic in the area. In all cases, photographers and film crews are expected to respect privacy and intellectual property rights and to comply with the guidance and instructions of the competent authorities.
Special permits are required for filming or photography in military and port facilities, border regions, archaeological sites, museums, monuments, airports, train and metro stations, Migrant Accommodation Facilities and Reception and Identification Centers, hospitals, courts, prisons, universities, schools, environmentally protected areas (including national parks, forests, and wildlife habitats), places of worship (such as churches, monasteries, mosques, and synagogues), as well as for underwater filming.
A permit from the Civil Aviation Authority is also required for aerial filming using drones (unmanned aircraft systems).
Further information on the use of drones in Greece is available on the Drone Aware-GR platform at http://dagr.hasp.gov.gr and on the website of the Civil Aviation Authority at hcca.gov.gr.
