Restoration

The Embassy of Greece in the United States begins a new chapter in its distinguished legacy. The Embassy’s landmark building at 2221 Massachusetts Ave., Washington, D.C., long recognized for its Hellenic heritage and Washingtonian elegance, is now entering a comprehensive restoration phase:the revival of a building that has long embodied the spirit of Hellenic presence in the U.S. capital.

Once restored, this timeless edifice will continue Greece’s enduring diplomatic tradition in the US, by reaffirming the role of diplomacy as a pillar of understanding, dialogue and shared values. It will not only stand as a welcoming home for the Greek American community — a living expression of our tradition of philoxenia (hospitality), but also as a jewel of architecture, which will once again shine among Washington’s most distinguished residences.

Guided by care to further elevate the already outstanding level of Greek American relations and deep respect for history, the Government of Greece undertakes this restoration with diligence and devotion. Today begins a three-year journey to breathe life once more into a historic building that will anew connect peoples, foster trust and forge lasting partnerships.
