Human Rights

Greece’s Participation to Human Rights Instruments

Greece is party to all major international instruments in the field of human rights, such as:

− Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (1954)
- International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (1970)
− Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (1983) and its Optional Protocol (2002)
− International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1985)
− Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (1988) and Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (2014)
− Convention on the Rights of the Child (1993) and its Optional Protocol on the involvement of children in armed conflict (2003) and Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography (2008)
− International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1997) and its First and Second Optional Protocols (1997)
- Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2012) and Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2012)
- International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (2015).
