62nd Human Rights Council Session: Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on the oral update of the Fact Finding Mission for the Sudan62nd Human Rights Council Session: Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on the oral update of the Fact Finding Mission for the Sudan
Ambassador Ioannis Ghikas, Permanent Representative of Greece to the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva, made the following statement during the Enhanced Interactive Dialogue on the oral update of the Fact Finding Mission for the Sudan:
"Greece aligns with the EU statement and thanks the Fact-Finding Mission for its update.
The conflict in Sudan has resulted in the world’s most severe humanitarian crisis, massive violations of human rights, including the recruitment and exploitation of children, arbitrary arrests and detention, sexual violence, as well as the documented pattern of enforced disappearances and missing persons. It calls for decisive international attention and action. We strongly condemn the continued attacks against civilians, including humanitarian and healthcare workers, as well as civilian infrastructure, which in the case of El Fasher could be characterized as genocide.
We call on all parties to immediately cease hostilities, ensure the protection of civilians and guarantee full, safe and unhindered humanitarian access, including through effective humanitarian corridors.
We repeat that the international community must act decisively to end this crisis and ensure accountability for those responsible for serious violations and atrocity crimes. We call on all external actors to cease any support that fuels the conflict.
Full cooperation is essential to bring perpetrators to justice, alongside sustained international engagement to prevent further regional destabilization.
I thank you."
