EVENT ON EVROPOS- "THE CITY OF EUROPEANS " AT THE EMBASSY OF GREECE IN BELGIUM
From ancient Europe to the modern heart of Europe, last night at the Embassy of Greece in Belgium was a unique journey of history, culture and music, on the occasion of the celebration of Europe Day.
The Ambassador of Greece to Belgium, Ms. Sofia Grammata, welcomed the guests to an event dedicated to the common European roots and the timeless contribution of the Greek culture.
The main speaker of the evening was Dr. Georgia Stratouli, archaeologist and Head of the Kilkis Ephorate of Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture, who presented a particularly interesting speech on the topic:"The City of Europeans. From ancient Europe to the heart of Europe”
This was followed by the screening of the short film 'Europeans' Polis”, produced by the Kilkis Ephorate of Antiquities with the funding of the Ministry of Culture.
Greetings were delivered by the Second Vice-President of the Parliament, Mr. Georgios Georgantas, the Mayor of Paionia, Mr. Konstantinos Sionidis, as well as the President of the Greek Community of Brussels, Mr. Philippos Kotsaridis.
The President of the Greek Committee of Belgium for the Return of the Parthenon Sculptures, Dr. Christiane Tytgat, presented a historical overview of the Committee’s actions in the service of Greece’s request for the permanent return of the Greek marbles.
The event was accompanied by the lyre of Lina Palera and Theodoros Koumartzis, members of the Seikilo group, presenting a unique tribute to ancient Greek music.
Dr. Stratoulis presented the Ambassador with a copy of the marble pedestal that bears the inscription "THE CITY OF EUROPEANS", which was crucial for the identification of the ancient city. Ambassador Grammata also received a historical album and an honorary plaque of the municipality of Paionia from the Mayor, Mr. Sionidis.
