The event of honor and historical remembrance for the struggle and sacrifice of the Cretans during the Greek Revolution was held with great emotion on Friday, November 28, at the Embassy of Greece in Brussels, through the organization of the Cretan Association of Belgium and the local branch of the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis (ISFNK).
The centerpiece of the event was the exhibition “1821 Crete in the Greek Revolution”, that formed part of the Historical Museum of Crete’s tribute to the bicentennial of the start of the Greek Revolution. It was created for the Greek diaspora of European countries with funding of the Region of Crete. Following coordinated actions by the Pan-Cretan Federation of Europe and the Cretan Association of Belgium, the exhibition was hosted for one day in Brussels.
The evening of talks, which followed, opened with a greeting from the Deputy Head of Mission, Mr. Dimitrios Velissaroulis.
The historical information regarding the exhibition and the Holocaust of Arkadi was presented by the President of the Cretan Association of Belgium, Mr. Georgios Fligos, the President of the Pan-Cretan Federation of Europe, Ms. Eftychia Olofson-Saviolaki and the member of the ISFNK, Mr. Georgios Maglis.
