EVENT FOR THE WORLD CHILDREN'S DAY

Monday, 01 December 2025

The Embassy of Greece in Belgium, in collaboration with the Greek Education Office in Brussels, the Kestekidion Greek School of Brussels, the Greek Section of the Secondary Cycle of the European School Brussels III (EEB III), and the Hellenic Community of Brussels organized an event on 26 November to mark World Children’s Day, in which children were accorded a central role.

In her greeting, the Ambassador Mrs. Sofia Grammata thanked all the above-mentioned institutions, as well as the students and their parents, who warmly responded to the Embassy’s call to participate in an event aimed at bringing together children from the Greek schools of Brussels and encouraging an exchange of ideas.

This was followed by a recorded message from the Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, Mrs. Sofia Zacharaki, who emphasized her Ministry’s and all Greek educational institutions’ commitment to safeguarding the rights of the Child.

In his remarks, the President of the Hellenic Community of Brussels, Mr. Filippos Kotsaridis, highlighted the critical challenges facing today’s youth. The Coordinator of the Greek Education Office in Brussels, Mrs. Amalia Kapsala, and the Inspector of the Secondary Cycle of the European Schools Mr. Athanasios Koutroubas noted the essential role of education in ensuring children’s rights and thanked the teachers and students who took part in the event.

The UN Representative for Greece and Cyprus, Mr. Dimitrios Fatouros, following the message of the UN Secretary-General, referred to the United Nations’ initiatives promoting children’s rights.

Students from the Kestekidion Greek School presented performances on children's rights and sang Greek and French songs. The Embassy hall was decorated with their artwork.

The European School Brussels III showcased environmental projects, a video on the right of access to education, poems, and dramatized literary texts. The event concluded with reflections by a student of the school on how she experiences children’s rights in her daily life.
