Event celebrating “International Women’s Day” and “Journée internationale de la francophonie” by the Embassies of Greece and Romania in Belgium (06.03.2025)

The Embassies of Greece and Romania in Belgium in collaboration with the Romanian Cultural Institute of Brussels and the Université Libre de Bruxelles, organised, on March 6, an event on the occasion of “International Women’s Day” and “Journée internationale de la francophonie”. 
The Ambassador of Greece, Sofia Grammata, opened the event, thanking the Romanian Embassy, the Romanian Cultural Institute of Brussels and the Université Libre de Bruxelles for their cooperation in holding this important initiative. She emphasized that women’s rights are not only women’s rights but fundamental rights of democracy. In her address, the Ambassador of Romania, Andreea Pastarnac, praised Greece’s significant role in spreading democracy, focusing on the friendship between the two peoples and on Greek-Romanian relations. She also referred to the role of the Phanariotes in promoting hellenophone culture as well as francophonie in Romania. President of the "DOP - Thetis of Brussels", Eleni Magklara, and Professor Baudouin Decharneux, member of the Royal Academy of Belgium and the Academy of Athens & Doctor Honoris also addressed the event, while Dr. Alice Cristina Toma, Lecturer of Romanian language at ULB and Professor Robert Laffineur from the University of Liège, Honorary Consul of Greece in Liège, provided insightful presentations. The event concluded with excerpts from Aristophanes' play "Lysistrata," under the commentary of director Aristides Lavrentzos, featuring performances by Artemis Chatzi, Anna Romanou, Vasilis Magnis and Antonis Kastrisianakis. Following the event, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy Greek delicacies, kindly offered by Brussels DOP Thetis.
