We extend our sincere condolences to the Israeli people on the passing of Shimon Peres, a charismatic statesperson who served his country with a vision and extended major efforts for peace in the Middle East.
The political heritage of the deceased identified itself with the modern history of his country and was characterized by his profound belief in the need to advance peaceful coexistence between the Israeli and the Palestinian people. This particular feature became, after all, also apparent in the framework of the negotiations that led to the Oslo Accords, which constitute a landmark in the course of the peace process.
Memorable is, lastly, the personal contribution of Shimon Peres to the strengthening of Greek-Israeli friendship and cooperation. He was attached to Greece, after all, through personal ties, since during WWII his father was here to fight the Nazis and survived thanks to the valuable assistance of the Greeks.
