Announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 42nd anniversary of the illegal declaration of the pseudo-state in Cyprus (15.11.2025)

Today marks 42 years since the illegal and invalid unilateral declaration of the pseudo-state, condemned by UN Security Council Resolutions 541/1983 and 550/1984, in complete violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and International Law.

Greece will never accept the fait accompli of the Turkish invasion and occupation and calls upon all States to uphold International Law, resist any form of revisionism and fully respect the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus in the face of this secessionist entity.

In coordination with the Republic of Cyprus, we remain committed to finding a comprehensive, mutually acceptable solution, based on a Bi-zonal, Bi-communal Federation with political equality, a single international personality, single sovereignty and single citizenship, within the framework of the UN Security Council Resolutions.

The recent diplomatic activity on the Cyprus Issue, the appointment of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus and the informal meetings in a broader format constitute important steps toward creating the conditions necessary for the resumption of talks.
